Festivals
Festival calendar
Monastery mask dances, new years and harvest days, month by month, with the community each one belongs to.
Most Sikkim festivals follow the Tibetan or Lepcha lunar calendar, so they move by two to four weeks from year to year. We list the usual months; ask us for the exact date in the year you travel. Monasteries are places of worship: dress modestly, ask before photographing and keep out of the dance ground.
