Sikkim climbs from about 280 m in the Teesta valley to over 5,000 m at Gurudongmar in less than a day's drive. Pick a package to see where each night sleeps, and where the climb is steep enough to plan around.

Acclimatising, plainly

Above about 3,000 m, try not to raise your sleeping altitude by more than 500 m a night. Day trips higher are fine if you come back down to sleep.
Take it slowly the first afternoon up high. Walk, do not run up steps.
Drink water steadily and skip alcohol and sleeping pills for the first two nights up high.
At the high lakes and passes (Gurudongmar, Nathu La, Zero Point) keep your stop short and warm.
Headache, nausea, dizziness or very poor sleep can mean altitude sickness. Do not go higher with symptoms; if they get worse, go down. Tell your driver: they turn back for this every season.
