Skywalk, Chenrezig and the climb to Sanga Choeling
Walk the glass Skywalk beside the 137-foot Chenrezig statue opened in 2018, then climb the old path to Sanga Choeling, dated to 1697, for one of the quietest views in Pelling.

The Chenrezig statue and Skywalk sit on the ridge below Sanga Choeling, a short drive from Upper Pelling. The statue of Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion, is 137 feet high, and the glass-floored walkway projects from the hillside towards it. Arrive soon after opening to avoid queues and tour groups.
From there, a steep path of steps and trail climbs through forest to Sanga Choeling Monastery. It takes 30–40 minutes at a steady pace. The monastery belongs to the Nyingma order, is dated to 1697 and has been rebuilt after fires; it keeps clay statues from the 17th century. Its name means 'island of the Guhyamantra teachings'.
Few visitors make the climb, so the courtyard is usually silent except for the wind in the prayer flags. The ridge looks across to Pemayangtse and, on clear days, Kangchenjunga. Take water, go slowly at 2,200 m, and come down the same way.

Questions travellers ask
Before you book
How much is the Pelling Skywalk ticket?
Indicatively ₹50–100 per person for Indian visitors, with separate rates for foreigners and children at times. Fees and timings change, and the site may close in bad weather. Check current status before you travel. Carry cash in case digital payment is down.
Is the climb to Sanga Choeling difficult?
It is steep but short: about 30–40 minutes up from the Skywalk area on steps and trail. Fit children and most adults manage it slowly; people with knee or heart problems may find it hard at about 2,200 m. Wear shoes with grip and carry water.
Can women visit Sanga Choeling Monastery?
Visitors of all genders may visit the courtyard and shrines respectfully. Wikipedia notes that the monastic community itself is for men only. Dress modestly, remove shoes and hats where asked, walk clockwise and ask before taking photographs of monks or inside shrines.
