A hotel run by the Elgin group on the ridge just below Pemayangtse Monastery, with lawns that face Kangchenjunga across the Rangeet valley. The quietest premium address in West Sikkim, a short walk from Pemayangtse and Rabdentse.
The Elgin Mount Pandim sits on the Pemayangtse ridge at a little over 2,000 m, a few minutes on foot from the gate of Pemayangtse Monastery and about 2 km from the Pelling market. The Elgin group also runs hotels in Darjeeling and Gangtok, and the house style is the same here: old-fashioned service, a fireplace lounge, gardens and set-menu dinners. On a clear morning between October and April the lawn looks straight at Kangchenjunga and Kabru.
We book it for couples and older travellers who want calm rather than nightlife. Upper Pelling's cafes are a short drive away, but most guests stay in for dinner. Because the hotel is below the main Pelling ridge, you walk to Pemayangtse before the day visitors arrive and to the Rabdentse ruins by the forest path. Rates change sharply by season, so treat our band as a guide and check current status before you travel.
Why we book it
What it does well
- A five-minute walk to Pemayangtse Monastery
- Kangchenjunga view from the lawns on clear mornings
- Quiet location away from Upper Pelling traffic

Questions travellers ask
Questions about The Elgin Mount Pandim, Pelling
How far is The Elgin Mount Pandim from Pelling market?
It is about 2 km below Upper Pelling on the Pemayangtse road, roughly 10 minutes by car. Pemayangtse Monastery is a five-minute walk from the hotel gate and the Rabdentse ruins about 20–30 minutes on foot. Most guests keep a car for the day for Khecheopalri, Yuksom and the waterfalls, which are 1–2 hours away on hill roads.
Can you see Kangchenjunga from The Elgin Mount Pandim?
Yes, on clear days. The view from the lawns runs across the Rangeet valley to Kangchenjunga, Kabru and Pandim. The best odds are between mid-October and March, at sunrise. From June to September cloud usually hides the range for days at a time, so we never promise a view in the monsoon.
Is The Elgin Mount Pandim good for families with children?
It suits families who want a calm base with gardens to walk in, but it is not a resort with activities or a pool. Children who like monasteries and short walks enjoy it. Families wanting a livelier place close to cafes may prefer a hotel in Upper Pelling. Ask us about connecting rooms and extra beds, which vary by room type.
