A large resort in Pelling from the group behind The Chumbi Residency in Gangtok, with a spa, several dining options and rooms that face Kangchenjunga. A good premium choice for families and couples who want resort facilities close to the Pelling sights.
The Chumbi Mountain Retreat and Spa is one of the bigger hotels in Pelling, run by the same family group as The Chumbi Residency in Gangtok. It sits close to the Pelling town area, so Sanga Choeling, the Chenrezig statue and Skywalk, Pemayangtse and Rabdentse are all a short drive. Rooms on the mountain side look towards Kangchenjunga when the sky is clear.
We use it for families and couples who want a spa, room service and space after long drives on the Gangtok–Pelling road. It is busier than The Elgin Mount Pandim and better for groups. Prices swing a lot between peak weeks (October, Durga Puja, Christmas, May) and the monsoon, so we quote live rates and add the ₹50 Sikkim tourist fee collected at check-in. Check current status before you travel.
Why we book it
What it does well
- Spa and resort facilities after long hill drives
- Short drive to Pemayangtse, Rabdentse and the Skywalk
- Larger property that handles family groups well

Questions travellers ask
Questions about The Chumbi Mountain Retreat and Spa
Is The Chumbi Mountain Retreat in Upper Pelling?
It is in the Pelling town area, within a short drive of Upper Pelling's market, the helipad viewpoint and the road to the Chenrezig statue and Skywalk. Pemayangtse and Rabdentse are about 10 minutes away by car. Ask us for a mountain-facing room if the Kangchenjunga view matters to you, as not every room faces the range.
Does The Chumbi Mountain Retreat have a spa?
Yes, the hotel has a spa offering massages and other treatments, which is a big part of its appeal after the 5–6 hour drive from Gangtok or Siliguri. Treatments are paid separately and are best booked on arrival. Timings and menus change, so ask at the desk or let us check before you travel.
How much does a night at The Chumbi Mountain Retreat cost?
Indicatively ₹9,000–18,000 a room a night, depending on room type, season and meal plan. Peak weeks in October, late December and May cost the most; July and August are cheapest. Rates usually include breakfast. The ₹50 per person Sikkim tourist fee is collected at check-in. We quote live prices when you enquire.
