Yangsum Heritage Farm
A family farmhouse built in 1833 and remodelled in 1966, on a 44-acre organic farm about 2 km from Rinchenpong bazaar. Wood-panelled rooms, meals from the farm and guided walks make it the most characterful stay in Soreng district.

Yangsum is a working farm first. The family grows maize, paddy, millet, potatoes, garlic, turmeric and sweet potato, and the kitchen cooks with what comes in from the fields that week. The main house, built in 1833 and remodelled in 1966 according to the hosts and several travel features, keeps its old wooden panelling, and the guest rooms have private bathrooms. The farm sits at roughly 1,500 m, below Rinchenpong, with the Kangchenjunga range to the north-west.
It suits travellers who want to slow down for two or three nights: walk the farm paths, eat long meals, and take a locally guided day hike towards the monastery or the villages below. It is not a resort, so do not expect a spa, a bar or room service. Rooms are few and book out early for October–November and spring, so plan two to three months ahead for those weeks.
Why we book it
What it does well
- A real 19th-century Sikkimese farmhouse rather than a new concrete block
- Food grown on the farm, cooked the way the family eats it
- Guided walks that connect the farm to Rinchenpong's monasteries and villages

Questions travellers ask
Questions about Yangsum Heritage Farm
How far is Yangsum Heritage Farm from Rinchenpong?
About 2 km from Rinchenpong bazaar, a few minutes by car or a 30–40 minute walk on village paths. Rinchenpong Monastery is a short drive or a steady uphill walk away. Your car can reach the farm, but if you arrive by shared jeep, call ahead so the hosts can tell you where to get off.
Is Yangsum Heritage Farm worth the higher price?
If you value history, home-grown food and quiet, yes. You pay for a family farmhouse from 1833, guided walks and meals from the fields rather than for luxury fittings. Travellers who want a television, a bar or a lift will be happier at a resort in Kaluk. We suggest two nights so you can join a farm walk without rushing.
Is Yangsum suitable for children and older travellers?
Generally yes. The farm has open space, animals and easy paths, which children enjoy. Older travellers should ask for a room with the fewest steps, since the house and farm are on a slope. There is no medical facility on site; the nearest clinics are in Rinchenpong and Soreng, and the district hospital is in Soreng.
