Barfung is a Bhutia village on the slope near Ravangla, and the retreat is built to feel like part of it: three cottages with wooden floors and panelled walls, rooms from standard deluxe up to suites, tea and coffee makers, desks and blackout curtains. It is small enough that staff learn your name by the second morning.
We use it for comfort-tier trips around Buddha Park, Ralang and Temi. The location gives you a village walk before breakfast and a short drive into Ravangla for the monastery circuit. The restaurant is multi-cuisine; ask for Sikkimese dishes a day ahead. Families with young children like the open space and quiet.

Questions about The Barfung Retreat
Where is The Barfung Retreat?
In Barfung village on the outskirts of Ravangla, above the Barfung primary school. It is a few minutes by car from Ravangla market and about 15 minutes from Buddha Park. If you arrive by shared jeep from Gangtok or Namchi, a local taxi from Ravangla stand will drop you for around ₹200–300.
Is breakfast included at The Barfung Retreat?
Breakfast is normally included in room rates, and lunch and dinner are available at the restaurant. We usually book half board (breakfast and dinner) because Barfung has few other places to eat after dark. Confirm the meal plan when you book, as packages vary by season.
Is it good for a honeymoon?
Yes, if you prefer quiet to nightlife. Ask for a suite or a room in the cottage furthest from the reception. Pair it with a night at Temi tea garden and a morning at Buddha Park. October–November and March–April bring the clearest weather and mild days.
