Rhenock bazaar walk and momos

A relaxed walk through the town's market, with tea, momos and shopping for supplies, before heading on to Aritar or Rongli.

Rhenock is a working market for villages on both sides of the Sikkim and West Bengal border, so mornings bring farmers, schoolchildren and shoppers together. Start with milk tea and momos at a busy stall.

Walk the main street for fruit, vegetables, spices, hardware and small shops. Ask before photographing people or stalls, and buy something small if you do.

Withdraw cash from a bank or ATM before leaving, and stock up on water. Some shops close earlier on Sundays and holidays.

Questions travellers ask

Before you book

Are there vegetarian options?

Yes. Vegetable momos, noodles, thali and fried snacks are common. Say if you avoid onion, garlic or egg. Not every kitchen separates vegetarian and non-vegetarian cooking.

Is there an ATM?

Yes, ATMs and banks serve the market, but machines can run empty or go offline. Carry spare cash from Gangtok or Pakyong.

How long should we stop?

Most visitors stop for an hour or two on the way to Aritar or Rongli. There is little to do beyond walking, eating and buying supplies.
