Sunrise at Mankhim ridge
An early drive from Aritar to the ridge, timed for first light on the snow peaks and the valley below. The temple is the destination, and the view is the reward.

Leave your Aritar homestay around 5 am in season. The road climbs for about 30 minutes through forest and cardamom plots, and the final stretch is a short walk. Dress warmly: the ridge is windier and cooler than the lake, even in spring.
On a clear morning, the Kangchenjunga range shows to the north-west and the Rangpo valley drops to the south. Lampokhari lies like a pencil line below. By 8 am cloud often rises from the valleys, so the best light is brief.
Treat the temple as a place of worship, not a backdrop. Remove shoes, keep to quiet voices and ask a local before photographing the shrine. Do not climb on the structure or leave litter.

Questions travellers ask
Before you book
What time should we leave for sunrise?
Around 5 am in October to March and a bit earlier from April, when dawn is sooner. Allow 30 minutes for the drive and 10 minutes for the walk. Check the sunrise time for your date and ask your driver to confirm. Carry a torch.
Is the temple open to visitors?
Yes, during daylight, as a place of worship that people visit quietly. There is no fixed fee, and a small donation is welcome. Ceremonies may be in progress; ask before taking photographs. Check current status before you travel.
Will we see Kangchenjunga for sure?
No. Clear mornings are most likely from October to December and in March and April, but cloud can hide the peaks on any day. If it is cloudy, you still get the valley and the quiet. We do not promise views.
