Hill homestay evening near Mankhim
An evening at a Mankhim hill homestay: dinner cooked at home, tea on the veranda and a quiet night above the lake, with cool air and wide views at first light.

Mankhim hill homestays are family homes that take guests, so evenings follow family rhythms. Arrive by late afternoon, have tea and walk to the temple ridge before dusk if the weather is clear.
Dinner is usually rice, dal, seasonal greens, a vegetable dish and either chicken or pork, or a vegetarian alternative on request. Ask what is growing in the garden that month. Fermented foods such as gundruk and pickles often appear, and large cardamom may flavour tea.
Nights are cooler than at the lake, so carry a fleece and expect thick quilts. Electricity and hot water can be limited, and signal is patchy. Book ahead and confirm what is included before you travel.

Questions travellers ask
Before you book
What food do homestays serve?
Home-style Sikkimese and Nepali food: rice, dal, vegetables, greens, a meat or egg dish, pickles and tea. Vegetarian meals are easy. Tell your host about allergies and preferences in advance, and ask for less chilli if needed.
Is hot water available?
Usually yes, from a geyser or bucket heated on request, but supply can be limited and electricity can fail. Ask when you book. Bring warm layers because nights are cool, and keep a torch handy.

Book through us or contact a homestay directly well ahead, especially around Sakewa and long weekends. Confirm room type, bathroom, meals, price and the road in. Pay the ₹50 entry fee collected at check-in. Check current status before you travel.
