Walk across Sikkim's highest bridge
Walk the full 240 m of the Singshore Bridge and back, stopping mid-span to look more than 100 m down into the forested gorge, on the road between Dentam and Uttarey in the far west of the district.

The walk itself is simple: park at the Dentam end, walk to the far side and back, and stop as often as you like. Wikipedia gives the span as about 240 m and the height as more than 100 m, which makes it the highest bridge in Sikkim. At an easy pace the walk takes 15–20 minutes, and most people spend half an hour or more.
The view is best from the middle, looking straight down at the stream and along the gorge, where thin waterfalls run down the walls after rain. If you are nervous of heights, keep to the centre line when no vehicles are coming and look ahead rather than down.
This is a working road bridge, so watch for jeeps and cars, stay on the edges when they pass and do not stop vehicles for photographs.

Questions travellers ask
Before you book
How long and high is Singshore Bridge?
Wikipedia gives the length as about 240 m (787 ft) and the height as more than 100 m (328 ft) above the gorge, making it the highest bridge in Sikkim. It is often described as the second highest bridge in Asia, a claim repeated by the district administration that we have not been able to verify.
Is there an entry fee for Singshore Bridge?
The bridge is a public road, and walking across has generally been free; at times a small fee or parking charge may be collected. Check current status before you travel. There are few facilities, so carry water and use toilets in Dentam or Pelling before you come.
Is Singshore Bridge safe to walk on?
Yes, for normal walking. It is a steel and concrete road bridge that carries vehicles. Stay on the edges when traffic passes, do not lean over or climb the railings, hold children's hands and avoid crossing in very strong wind or heavy rain. People with a strong fear of heights may prefer to view it from the end.
