Evening with a Khecheopalri homestay family
Spend a night with a family in Khecheopalri village: home-cooked dinner, stories about the lake, and a morning walk down before the day visitors arrive.

Khecheopalri village sits above the lake, with a small monastery and scattered farmhouses among cardamom and maize. A handful of families host guests. Rooms are simple, with thick quilts in winter, and meals are cooked in the family kitchen.
Expect rice, dal, seasonal vegetables, local greens and pickles, with chicken or pork on many days; vegetarian meals are easy to arrange. Evenings are quiet: tea by the stove, conversation about farming and the lake, and an early night.
Families here come from different communities, and each has its own version of the lake's stories. Ask, listen, and do not expect a show. Pay in cash and leave rooms as you found them.

Questions travellers ask
Before you book
What are homestays in Khecheopalri like?
Simple and warm: a clean room in a family house, shared or attached bathroom, hot water sometimes by bucket, and home-cooked meals. Expect quiet evenings and early mornings. They suit travellers who value local contact over hotel comforts.
How much does a Khecheopalri homestay cost?
Indicatively ₹1,200–2,000 per person a night including dinner and breakfast. Rooms with attached bathrooms cost a little more. Pay in cash where possible, as card and UPI may not work reliably.
Is there mobile network in Khecheopalri?
Coverage is patchy. Some networks work in parts of the village, with weak data. Tell family members you may be offline for a night. Power cuts happen, so carry a torch and a charged power bank.
