Sunset tea over the Namchi valley
End a Namchi day with a cup of Temi tea at the garden's café or viewpoints as the sun drops towards the Darjeeling ridge and Namchi's lights come on below. Simple, cheap and very local.
Late afternoon in Namchi brings long golden light across the valley. From the Rock Garden's viewpoints you look south-west over the town to the hills of Darjeeling district, where the sun sets between October and February. Solophok's Shiva catches the last light before the town falls into shadow.
Order tea at the café near the entrance; ask whether they have Temi, Sikkim's own organic tea, grown about an hour away. With it, try a plate of momos or a packet of local biscuits. A simple tea and snack costs about ₹100–200 per person.
Check closing time when you arrive, as gardens often shut around 5–6 pm and the sunset may fall just after. If so, enjoy the view from the road edge outside. Bring a warm layer; temperatures drop fast once the sun goes, especially in December and January.

Questions travellers ask
Before you book
Is Temi tea served at the Rock Garden café?
Often, but not always; many cafés in Namchi serve Temi tea, Sikkim's single state-run estate tea, alongside regular CTC. Ask. If not, buy a packet of Temi tea in Namchi market to brew at your hotel.
What time does the Rock Garden close?
Closing time has generally been in the late afternoon, around 5–6 pm, but varies. Check at the ticket counter when you arrive. In winter, sunset is around 4:50–5:10 pm, so the timing usually works.
Is it safe to drive down after dark?
Yes, with a local driver. The road between the Rock Garden and Namchi is short and well used. Self-drivers unfamiliar with hill roads should start down before full dark. Fog can settle on winter evenings.
