Family stroll and picnic at the Rock Garden
An easy, unhurried break for families: wander the terraced paths and footbridges, let children spot fish and flowers, then picnic at a viewpoint looking over Namchi. A gentle counterweight to a morning of statues and steps.
Families with young children often find Sikkim's sightseeing heavy on driving and climbing. The Rock Garden is the opposite: short paths, benches every few minutes, small pools and bridges, and enough space for children to move. Walk the full loop in 30–45 minutes, stopping as often as you like.
Bring a picnic from Namchi, or buy snacks at the café near the entrance. The covered viewpoints make good spots to eat, with Namchi below and Solophok's Shiva across the valley. Please carry all rubbish out; Sikkim has strict rules on littering and plastic, and the garden staff keep it very clean.
Go between mid-morning and early afternoon, when the paths have dried after the morning dew. In spring the beds are full of colour. Some stretches are steep and there are open water edges, so keep toddlers close. Toilets are near the entrance.

Questions travellers ask
Before you book
Is the Rock Garden good for small children?
Yes, it is one of the most child-friendly places in Namchi: short paths, ponds, bridges and space to move. Some steps are steep and pools have open edges, so supervise toddlers closely. A baby carrier is easier than a pram on the stepped paths.
Can we bring food into the Rock Garden?
Picnics are generally fine in the seating areas. Carry all rubbish out with you. Sikkim restricts single-use plastics and littering is fined. If unsure, ask at the ticket counter. A small café near the entrance sells tea and snacks.
Are there toilets at the Rock Garden?
Yes, public toilets are available near the entrance area, usually clean. Carry tissues and hand sanitiser just in case. There are also toilets at Samdruptse car park and in Namchi town.
