Bazaar tea and momo crawl

A light food walk around Rongli's market: milk tea, momos, noodles and fried snacks from small stalls, to fuel you before the high road.

Rongli's food scene is small and honest: tea stalls, momo counters and small thali places serving local office workers, drivers and farmers. Start with tea and a plate of momos.

Try thukpa on a cool day and sel roti if available in season. Eat where it is busy, because turnover is fresh. Ask about ingredients if you avoid meat or eggs.

Carry hand sanitiser and bottled water. Prices are low, so tip small. If you plan to climb the same day, eat lightly, since the road is winding.

Questions travellers ask

Before you book

Is street food safe in Rongli?

Generally fine at busy stalls with hot, fresh food. Avoid raw salads and ice if your stomach is sensitive. Carry sanitiser and bottled water. Drink hot tea.

Are there vegetarian options?

Yes. Vegetable momos, noodles, thali and fried snacks are easy to find. Say if you avoid onion, garlic or egg. Not every stall separates vegetarian and non-vegetarian cooking.

When are stalls open?

Usually from about 7 am to early evening. Many close earlier on Sundays and holidays. Check current status before you travel.
