Teesta and Rangpo confluence viewpoint

A short stop to see where the Rangpo river meets the Teesta below the town, safely from a bank or bridge, and read the geography of this gateway.

Wikipedia says the Teesta, the largest river of Sikkim, and the Rangpo, the third largest, meet below Rangpo at a spot called Rangpo Doban. Stand at a safe bank or bridge and look upstream at each valley.

In winter the rivers run clear and lower. In the monsoon from June to September they rise fast and violent, sometimes flooding the lower town, so do not visit then.

The confluence is also a place of local ritual; Wikipedia notes it is used as a cremation place. Keep a respectful distance and do not photograph rituals.
