Farmhouse supper and evening chat

Dinner in a Lingtam farmhouse, with produce from the garden, tea afterwards and unhurried conversation about the road and the seasons.

Lingtam homestays are working farms, so meals often use what is growing nearby: greens, squash, beans, maize and ginger. Rice and dal are constants, with a meat or egg dish for those who want one.

Ask about gundruk and pickles. Fermented foods are part of local kitchens, and your host may offer a taste. Say if you have allergies or dietary needs when you book.

Evenings are mild compared with Padamchen. Sit and listen if invited, and ask questions with respect. Avoid asking people to pose or perform. Bring a torch because electricity can fail.

Questions travellers ask

Before you book

Is the food spicy?

Home cooking is usually mild to medium, with dalle chilli pickle on the side if you want heat. Ask for less chilli when booking. Children are usually catered for.

Can vegetarians eat well?

Yes. Rice, dal, vegetables and greens are the base of most meals. Say if you avoid onion, garlic or eggs. Allow notice for special diets.

Do homestays take UPI or cards?

Often not reliably. Network signal can fail. Carry cash. The nearest ATMs are at Rongli and Rhenock.
