Waterfall in the monsoon and in the dry months
Compare the same falls across the year: strongest and loudest in the June to September monsoon, thinner and clearer in winter. We explain what to expect, and why the best waterfall month is not always the best travel month.

Waterfalls in Sikkim's hill forests are fed by rain and small streams, so the flow follows the season. From June to September the Seven Sisters Waterfall is at its fullest, with a loud, white flow and a lot of spray. Wikipedia's article on Kabi Lungchok records many streams and waterfalls in the area, one of them being this one.
The price of the monsoon show is the road. Slides can close the North Sikkim Highway and NH10 for hours or days, and the pull-off can be muddy and unsafe. If you are visiting in these months, keep your plans flexible, start early and ask your driver about the road before leaving Gangtok.
From November to March the falls are thinner, but the roads are more reliable and the air is clearer. Autumn, in October and November, gives a fair flow after the rains and good views across the valley. Check current status before you travel, in any season.

Questions travellers ask
Before you book
When are the falls at their best?
Flow is strongest in the June to September monsoon, but road conditions are at their worst, with frequent slides. October and November give a good flow after the rains and clearer weather. Winter flow is thinner. Check current status before you travel.
Is the road open in the monsoon?
Usually, but slides can close the North Sikkim Highway and NH10 for hours or days, and the closures are unpredictable. If you travel in the monsoon, keep a flexible plan and allow an extra day. Check current status before you travel.
Do the falls dry up in winter?
We have no record of them stopping, but the flow is reduced in the dry months from November to March, and spray is lighter. We do not have a measured figure, so ask your driver or check current status before you travel.
