Village fields walk from Norbugang
From Norbugang, wander the lanes and field paths of Yuksom past farmhouses, cardamom and vegetable plots, chortens and mani walls, and see the first capital as a working village.

Yuksom is a farming village before it is a heritage site. From Norbugang, lanes and footpaths lead past houses with vegetable gardens, small cardamom plots, maize and millet terraces depending on season, and chortens and mani walls carved with prayers.
Keep to paths, close gates, and ask before entering anyone's land. Villagers are used to trekkers and usually greet visitors warmly. In autumn you may see harvests; in spring, ploughing and planting.
A local guide can explain crops and village life and take you to quieter corners. Otherwise, wander for an hour and finish back at the bazaar for tea.

Questions travellers ask
Before you book
What crops grow around Yuksom?
Small farms grow vegetables, maize, millet, potatoes and large cardamom, with oranges at lower levels. Crops vary by season and household. Many families combine farming with tourism, working as guides, porters or homestay hosts.
Is it okay to walk through village fields?
Yes, on paths and lanes, as villagers do. Do not walk across planted fields, pick crops or enter houses uninvited. Close any gates behind you and keep dogs and children close. Greet people with a smile; most are friendly.
Do I need a guide for walks around Yuksom?
Not for short walks on lanes near the village. A guide helps if you want to learn about crops and households or to reach quieter paths further out. Indicatively ₹1,000–2,000 for 1–2 hours.
