Evening with a tea-worker family in Temi
Share an evening meal with a family from the villages around Temi, many of whom work in the estate, and hear how a working tea garden runs from the inside: plucking quotas, seasons, the organic switch. Arranged through local homestays.

Temi's bushes are tended by around 400 workers, most from Nepali-speaking families in the villages around the estate. Some of these families run homestays and are happy to host visitors for an evening meal, even if you are staying elsewhere. We arrange it through hosts we know.
Expect a simple, generous meal: rice, dal, a seasonal vegetable, perhaps local chicken, gundruk or squash, pickles and tea, of course. Conversation flows around the work: early starts, the rhythm of the flushes, what changed when the estate went organic, and what the next generation plans to do.
This is not a performance, so come with curiosity and respect. Contributions of about ₹500–1,000 per person go to the family. Tell us of dietary needs in advance. Avoid questions about wages unless your host raises the subject; let the evening find its own pace.

Questions travellers ask
Before you book
How do we arrange a dinner with a Temi family?
Through local homestays in Temi and Tarku, or through us. Give at least a day's notice so the family can cook. If you stay at a Temi homestay, this is part of the experience; if you stay at a resort, we can arrange a visit and transport.
Is it appropriate to ask about tea work?
Yes, families are generally happy to talk about the estate, the seasons and plucking. Be sensitive about wages, labour issues or personal finances, and let your hosts lead. Listen more than you ask.
What does the evening cost?
Usually about ₹500–1,000 per person for dinner and conversation, paid to the family. Transport is extra if you are staying outside the village. Prices are indicative; confirm when booking.
