Walk down from Samdruptse to the Rock Garden
Send your car ahead and walk the quiet road down from the statue through forest and village edges to the Rock Garden and Mamley, about 4–5 km, with views over Namchi most of the way. Gentle on the lungs, kinder to the knees with poles.

After your visit to the statue, start downhill on the road towards Namchi. The first stretch runs through cryptomeria and oak forest, cool and shaded, with birds busy in the canopy: listen for laughingthrushes and look for sunbirds on flowering shrubs in spring.
Lower down the forest opens onto village fields and terraces, and Namchi spreads out below with Solophok's Shiva on the far hill. The walk is about 4–5 km to the Rock Garden, losing roughly 450 m of height, and takes 1.5–2 hours with photo stops. Traffic is light on weekdays.
Arrange for your driver to meet you at the Rock Garden. Stop there for tea and a stroll, then visit the Mamley stromatolite site just nearby. Wear shoes with grip and carry water. Avoid this walk in heavy rain or thick mist, when visibility on the road is poor.
