How to make the trip
Shared jeep
1.5 h · ≈ ₹120–180 a seat
Shared jeeps for Rinchenpong and Kaluk leave the Jorethang stand through the day, most reliably in the morning; the last ones up leave in the mid-afternoon. Some go to Kaluk first, 3 km below Rinchenpong. Tell the driver where you are staying, as many will drop you at the homestay gate for a small extra.
Private car
1–1.5 h · ≈ ₹1,800–2,500 one way
A reserved small car takes about 1–1.5 hours and lets you stop for photographs as the Kangchenjunga range appears near the ridge. You can route via Mangalbarey, about 25 km from Jorethang, to visit the bazaar or Rahuney Cave, then climb about 19 km to Rinchenpong on the back road.
From Siliguri / NJP
4.5–5 h · ≈ ₹4,500–6,000 small car
Bagdogra and NJP are about 115–125 km from Rinchenpong, 4.5–5 hours via Sevoke, Melli and Jorethang. The Teesta stretch of NH10 closes after monsoon slides, when cars go via Kalimpong or Darjeeling. By shared jeep, go Siliguri–Jorethang (3.5–4 hours, ₹250–350) and change. Check current status before you travel.
Fares are indicative. Landslides, snow and check-post timings change journeys: check current status before you travel.
