Homestay dinner and evening by the hearth
An evening in a family homestay: dinner cooked in the home kitchen, tea by a stove and an early night after the climb from Rongli.

Most Padamchen homestays include dinner and breakfast. Meals are home-style: rice, dal, seasonal vegetables, greens, pickles and a meat or egg dish if you want. Vegetarian is easy. Ask your host what grows nearby in that month and what they would cook for their own family.
Evenings are cool even in summer, and cold from November to March, so a stove or hot water bottle is common in winter. Sit with the family if invited, and ask about the village and the road. Do not ask people to perform or pose.
Electricity, hot water and mobile signal can be limited. Bring a torch and a power bank. Book ahead around October and long weekends, and confirm what is included before you travel.

Questions travellers ask
Before you book
What is included in the homestay price?
Usually a room, dinner and breakfast, at about ₹1,200–1,800 per person. Packed lunch or tea may cost extra. Confirm what is included when you book, and ask about hot water and bathroom type.
Is vegetarian food available?
Yes. Rice, dal, vegetables, greens and pickles are staples, and hosts adapt easily. Tell them in advance about allergies or Jain needs. Eggs and meat are served as extra dishes.
Will there be mobile signal and electricity?
Signal is patchy and can drop in rain, and power cuts happen. Most homestays have inverters or lamps. Bring a power bank and a torch, download maps in advance and tell family not to expect constant contact.
