Reading Dzongu from the Singhik viewpoint
Use the Singhik viewpoint to read the Lepcha reserve of Dzongu laid out across the Teesta: villages, roads, cardamom forest and the valley leading to the snows. A short stop that adds meaning to any Dzongu visit.

From Singhik the whole of lower Dzongu lies across the gorge like a model. Your driver or host can point out the villages, the road that winds up the Rongyong valley, and the bridges over the Teesta. The reserve's protection is easy to see here: no hotel blocks or resort strips, just homes and fields among the trees.
If you are going into Dzongu, stop here first so you know where you are heading. If you are not, this is the closest look many travellers get. Combine it with what you know of the reserve's history: the Chogyal-era protection, the 2007–08 hydropower protests, and the homestay movement that followed.
Morning light is best for photographs. Use a zoom to pick out details, and avoid photographing people in Dzongu from a distance without their knowledge.

Questions travellers ask
Before you book
Can you see Dzongu from Singhik?
Yes. Singhik looks directly across the Teesta gorge to lower Dzongu, with its villages, cardamom forests and road up the Rongyong valley. It is one of the best places to see the reserve without a permit. On clear days the snow peaks rise above the head of the valley.
Do I need a permit for the Singhik viewpoint?
No. Singhik is on the North Sikkim Highway below the Toong check post, and no permit is needed. You need a separate permit, issued in Mangan, only if you want to enter Dzongu across the river. Check current status before you travel.
Is the Singhik viewpoint worth a stop?
Yes, for 20–30 minutes, especially in the morning. Even without the snow peaks, the view across to Dzongu is one of the most informative in North Sikkim. It costs nothing on the way to Lachung or Lachen and helps you understand the district.
