Vivanta Sikkim was the Indian Hotels Company's first hotel in Sikkim, built on the slopes near Pakyong among paddy fields and bamboo, about 7–8 km from the airport and roughly an hour from Gangtok. It has a temperature-controlled outdoor pool with mountain views, a Jiva spa, an all-day restaurant serving Sikkimese dishes alongside a wider menu, and a bar.
We suggest it for couples and families who want hotel comfort at the start or end of a Silk Route trip, or who prefer a quiet country base to Gangtok's traffic. Pakyong airport has no scheduled flights at present, so plan to arrive via Bagdogra (about 4 hours) or NJP. Check current status before you travel.
Why we book it

Questions travellers ask
Questions about Vivanta Sikkim, Pakyong
Can we fly into Pakyong to stay at Vivanta?
Not at present. Pakyong airport opened in 2018 but has no scheduled commercial flights now. Fly to Bagdogra (IXB) and drive about 4–4.5 hours via Rangpo, or take a train to NJP. Your driver can reach Vivanta without going through Gangtok. Check current status before you travel.
How far is Vivanta Pakyong from Gangtok?
About 30–35 km, roughly 1 to 1.5 hours by car via Ranipool, depending on traffic. That makes day trips to Gangtok, Rumtek and the Ranipool area easy, and Aritar is about 1.5–2 hours away via Rorathang and Rhenock.
Is Vivanta Sikkim a good base for the Silk Route?
It is a good first or last night. From Pakyong it is around 2 hours to Rongli for the Silk Route permit and the climb to Zuluk. We would not stay here every night of a Silk Route trip, as the drives to Zuluk and Nathang are long; sleep in the village homestays up the road instead.
