Farm walk across Daramdin's flat fields
Walk the broad fields that gave Daramdin its Lepcha name, past paddy, maize, vegetables, orange trees and, as the district site notes, rose farms. Easy walking by Sikkim standards and best in the harvest months of October and November.

Daramdin is one of the few places in Soreng district where you can walk for an hour without climbing hard. The fields spread around the bazaar in wide terraces: paddy that is transplanted in June and July and harvested in October and November, maize in summer, mustard and vegetables in winter, and orange trees around the houses. The district administration also lists rose farming among the activities here, so ask your guide whether any farms are open to visitors.
Sikkim was declared India's first fully organic state in 2016, and the district site describes how farmers here use cow dung, urine and traditional methods instead of chemical inputs. A local guide can explain the year on these fields: when paddy is planted, how maize and millet are stored, where cardamom is grown on the shadier slopes, and how many households now combine farming with homestays or jobs in town.
Allow two to three hours at an easy pace. Wear shoes with grip, since the field edges are narrow and slippery after rain, carry water and a hat, and stay on bunds and paths rather than walking through crops. October and November bring harvest activity and clear views; from June to September expect mud, leeches and heavy showers.

Questions travellers ask
Before you book
What crops grow around Daramdin?
Paddy, maize, mustard and vegetables on the flat fields, oranges around houses and cardamom on shadier slopes. The Soreng district site also lists rose farming at Daramdin. What you see depends on the month: harvest in October and November is the busiest and most photogenic time.
Is the Daramdin farm walk easy?
Yes, by Sikkim standards. Daramdin's name means flat land and the fields are gentle, though bunds are narrow and paths can be muddy. Most families and fit seniors manage two to three hours with breaks. Wear shoes with grip and carry water.
Do I need a guide for the farm walk?
Not to find your way, but a local guide, about ₹500–1,000, makes the walk far more interesting by explaining the crops, introducing you to farmers and keeping you on paths owners are happy for visitors to use. Ask your homestay host to suggest someone.
