How to make the trip
Shared jeep
3 h · ≈ ₹250–400 a seat
Shared jeeps run from Gangtok's south and west taxi stand to Ravangla, mostly in the morning. Some jeeps for Gyalshing, Pelling or Legship also pass through Ravangla. Buy your seat early in peak months. Fares are indicative; check current status before you travel. Afternoon departures are fewer, and in the monsoon some runs are cancelled after slides.
Private car
3 h direct · ≈ ₹3,500–4,500 small car; ₹4,500–6,000 SUV, one way
A reserved car allows a stop at Temi tea garden and a direct drop at your hotel. Many guests continue the next day to Ralang, Borong or Kewzing, or on to Pelling via Legship, so ask about a multi-day car rather than one-way transfers. Hire rates rise in peak months and for SUVs.
Fares are indicative. Landslides, snow and check-post timings change journeys: check current status before you travel.

Questions travellers ask
Gangtok to Ravangla: questions
How far is Ravangla from Gangtok?
About 65 km, roughly 3 hours by road via Singtam and either Temi or Damthang. Shared jeeps cost about ₹250–400 a seat and a small reserved car about ₹3,500–4,500 one way, indicative. The road is narrow and winding in places, and monsoon slides can add time.
Is Ravangla higher than Gangtok?
Yes, a little. Ravangla is at about 2,050 m, against about 1,650 m in Gangtok, so nights are noticeably colder, near freezing in January. The height is not enough to cause altitude sickness for most people, but pack warm clothes from November to March.
Can we do Gangtok to Ravangla as a day trip?
It is possible, about 6 hours of driving for the round trip, but tiring. Buddha Park and Ralang need time. We suggest a night in Ravangla, or including it on a one-way route from Gangtok to Pelling or Namchi so the driving is not wasted.
Does snow fall on the road to Ravangla?
Occasionally, on cold winter days from late December to February, Ravangla and the higher stretches of the road see light snow, which can slow traffic for a few hours. It is unpredictable. Ask your driver about conditions the evening before, and check current status before you travel.
